Port Townsend, Wash. – April 28, 2017 – As people all over the world gather together in celebration of this ancient Chinese art form, Port Townsend Athletic Club will be hosting our own event held at Pope Marine Park. The time is set for 10:00 a.m. and the entire community is encouraged to attend.
*Tai Chi - a Chinese martial art and form of stylized, meditative exercise, characterized by methodically slow circular movements and positions of bodily balances.
*Qigong - a Chinese system of breathing exercises, body postures and movements, and mental concentration intended to maintain good health and control the flow of vital energy.
It is true that a body in a state of balance is a body with systems which work better. Perhaps words to live by.
The health benefits of both Tai Chi and Qigong are numerous. For the body these art forms can create strength while improving mobility and flexibility. Meanwhile, muscles and joints stay balanced and healthy.
For the mind, they improve mood and lower stress, anxiety and even depression. Understandably, people who practice these arts also see increased self- esteem.
With the abundance of people suffering from dementia the practice of these arts proving to help stem the tide of these diseases is a welcome benefit. Recent studies published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease conclude that a regular Tai Chi exercise regimen enlarges the brain and enhances the cognitive abilities of elders.
